Sligo facility a ‘core site’ and strategic supplier to the medical, pharmaceutical and personal care markets
Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Mary Coughlan TD performed the official opening of the new €5 million facility for Amcor Flexibles. at IDA Finisklin Business Park, Sligo. Amcor, of Australia, is a global packaging company holding leadership positions in its chosen markets.
Amcor Flexibles Sligo, an IDA Ireland supported company, has moved into the new 25,000 sq. ft. facility at the Park, just 200 metres from the facility it previously occupied. The Sligo operation was established in 1980 and was acquired by Amcor in 2003. Currently the plant employs around 50 people in the manufacture of a variety of packaging and sealing solutions for major high calibre companies in the global healthcare industry.
The Tánaiste said “IDA Ireland has worked closely with Amcor Sligo and Amcor Corporate to secure the Sligo facility as a ‘core site’ for manufacturing and today’s announcement is a significant step in the successful achievement of that goal. I wish to congratulate the Sligo management team and workforce for their track-record of success which was a major influence in the expansion of the site and its designation as a core facility.”
Ciaran Donnellan, General Manager of the Sligo operation, said “The investment in and expansion of our Sligo operation is in line with Amcor’s global strategy. We have listened to our customers and responded to changing needs creating a world class facility to service existing and future needs.
