20 people with PhD, MSc and bachelor degrees in biomedical engineering, materials and quality will be employed in DePuy Ireland's new innovation centre.

Some 20 people with PhD, MSc and bachelor degrees in biomedical engineering, materials and quality will be employed in orthopaedic products company DePuy Ireland's new innovation centre.

Located at its Ringaskiddy facility in Cork, the centre is an important part of DePuy Ireland's future global strategy, and the work of the Cork centre will support the development of next generation products and operations.

Ed Mackey, vicepresident of worldwide operations, DePuy Inc, says the company's decision to locate the centre in Cork was due to the positive experience the firm has had with its manufacturing facility there over the past 11 years. Currently the facility employs over 600 people.

"This is a significant development for DePuy, and the quality and commitment of our workforce were key factors behind the investment," Mackey says.
