Secretarial
Breaking into Legal: The Legal Secretary
How to become a legal secretary: All you need to know
How much experience do I need?
In today’s job market, particularly legal, most vacancies advertised require a certain amount of specific experience, however this is not always the case...
What courses can I do?
To gain an entry level role in the legal sector you will ideally have completed a legal secretarial course or have 6-12 month’s secretarial experience.
Believe it or not, the two most influential factors to gain an entry role in the legal sector is not your experience or qualifications, but your personality and your typing speed.
If you are a confident, enthusiastic individual who is eager to learn with a ‘can do will do’ attitude, then you have a great chance of breaking into the legal industry.
What is the starting salary?
60-80% of a legal secretary’s day is spent dictaphone typing, so it is essential that you have a good typing speed. If this is your first role in legal, 45wpm copy typing will suffice. With a legal secretarial course completed and 50wpm, the starting salary can range from €22,000-25,000.
